Piracicaba, 06 - Brazilian apple exports shall be intensified in April – shipments started in February. The increase in fruit sent abroad is due to intensification of harvest. However, producers still focus on domestic sales, since international buyers require large fruits – which are in short supply this season and have good price in Brazil.
The main international buyer of Brazilian apples between February and March was Bangladesh, with almost 40% of total volume shipped. Growers shall increase sales to India this year, as this country authorized imports of Brazilian fruit. In February and March, apple volume exported summed 21 thousand tones, 88% higher than the same period of last year, according to Secex data. The revenue in these months was US$ 15 million, an increase of 81% in the same comparison.
