Piracicaba, April 29th - The first quarter was marked by lower Brazilian exports of fresh apples than in the same period last year. According to data from Secex, the volume exported was 15,000 tons between January and March/22, a 66% lower amount.
The reasons for this reduction, according to the agents consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea, are linked to the lower national volume harvested in this 2021/22 crop, in addition to the war between Russia and Ukraine – Russia is an important destination for Brazilian apples. It is worth remembering that apple exports occur mainly in the first half of the year.
