Piracicaba, 2nd – Despite low national supply, prices of high-quality cavendish bananas dropped in the region of Bom Jesus da Lapa (Bahia state) last week (August 24th to 28th). This devaluation happened after the variety demand has dropped in recent weeks due to the high prices practiced – the end of the month also affected sales.
Thus, price of high-quality cavendish bananas decreased by 5% compared to the previous week, with an average of 1.42 BRL per kilogram. On the other hand, producers reported that there were good sales of prata bananas, due to its higher supply and low prices. For this week, the beginning of the month may intensify banana sales, providing a possible cavendish price recovery.
