Piracicaba, 22 – Last week (November 12th to 16th), prices of cavendish banana remained in São Paulo wholesale, the variety was traded on average of BRL 25,00/bx of 22 kg. According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, despite an increase in the price of bananas in Vale do Ribeira (São Paulo state) – due to storms in the first week of November – the market isn’t responding well this price increase.
As a result, wholesalers started to buy cavendish from other producing regions, mainly from North of Santa Catarina (Santa Catarina state), since it offered cheaper fruits. In relation to market, it is the prolonged November holidays that may affect sales and with the year-end approaching, wholesalers don’t expect improvements in this scenario, as there is usually a reduction in sales this period of the year – due to school vacation and the preference for other fruits during the holiday season.
