Piracicaba, 19 – In 2019, Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators expect a reduction in national planting area, mainly for prata variety, due to the low prices in 2018.
The weather is also important for this forecast: while in Norte de Minas Gerais state there are still problems with the drought at Vale do Ribeira (São Paulo state) there were great losses because of a storm at end of 2018. As for fruit quality, lower standards are expected in 2019 since high dollar boosted costs and delayed fertilization.
