Piracicaba, 19th – Banana prices continued to rise in Vale do Ribeira (São Paulo state) the past week (November 9th to 13th). According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, what happened was a reflection of the low supply in this region and also in the other competing regions. It is interesting to remember that it was the drought and high temperatures in previous months that affected production in Vale do Ribeira.
Thus, cavendish banana of first quality showed a value 7% higher compared to the previous week, being sold at an average of BRL 1.86/kg. Prata of the same standard was sold for BRL 1.64/kg, 14% higher in the same comparison. For the coming weeks, producers in Vale do Ribeira expect new adjustments in prices, since the offer of both varieties (cavendish and prata) can remain restricted nationwide.
