Piracicaba, 21th – A 20% increase in area of the main melon crop of Vale do São Francisco (Bahia and Pernambuco Brazilian states) is expected in 2020, because of high prices in the last campaign. On the other hand, production of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states will depend on the results of the current season, which will be harvested until March.
For now, area tend to be maintained in the region, since the European market is stagnated. As a result, exporters are trying to diversify destinations. New international agreements may be favorable in this regard, but only for the coming harvests.
