Piracicaba, 6th – Positive profitability of formosa papaya (tainung) can recover the area harvested by 3% in Brazilian producing regions in 2020. This is because traditional and "adventurous" producers invested in the variety in Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia states - strong exporters of papaya.
In addition, producers will continue to invest in production technology, which may favor productivity in 2020. With the prospect of greater supply and maintenance of high production costs for this year, prices may fall and limit producer's profitability.
