Piracicaba, 11th – For the 2020/21 Brazilian harvest, the apple area can remain the same as last season since producers are being cautious regarding economic uncertainties. Thus, the few investments should focus on renovation of orchards, implementation of anti-hail screens, and irrigation.
As for production, there is no official data yet, but the apple volume in the 2020/21 harvest may recover by 17%, reaching 1.1 million tons according to agents consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea. This is because, despite the occurrence of some climate problems in the South of Brazil last year, like snow, frost and hail, their impacts were specific and there was a good accumulation of cold hours during the dormancy period in the orchards – a condition that positively influences the productive capacity of the plants.
