Piracicaba, 28th - For 2021, agents consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea expect the medium/high-tech banana area to present a slightly reduction in Brazil, influenced by a possible investment decrease in the Norte de Santa Catarina (region in Santa Catarina state), which recorded some climate problems in 2020 (such as drought, cyclone and hail).
In this region, some producers opted for replanting, while others preferred natural regrowth – if these strategies don't work, they can invest in other crops. There is still uncertainty about the covid-19 pandemic, but an economic recovery is expected, which may favor the sector, together with better production in the face of good farm management – a factor that will also depend on the climate.
