Piracicaba, 3rd - Table grape exports increased in the first semester of 2017, an atypical period for external sales of Brazilian grapes, and shall continue to grow in the second one. Between January and June, were sent abroad 4.9 thousands of tonnes, an amount 203% larger than in the same period of last year, according to Secex data. International demand for new seedless table grape varieties is the main reason for the rise. Due to that, São Francisco Valley (Bahia and Pernambuco states) is expanding the growing area of these new varieties, mainly arra 15 and BRS vitória.
Furthermore, domestic demand for seedless grape is growing as well. A higher volume of grape exports from Brazil will still take place between September and December of every year, and European Union is the main buyer.
