Piracicaba, 30th – Last week (April 12th to 18th), quotes fell XX% in relation to the previous one, closing at BRL XX.XX box of 20 units in Mogi das Cruzes (São Paulo state). The reason is an increase in lettuce supply, considering better weather conditions with the end of Brazilian summer.
In February and March, production was affected by rain and high temperatures, which contributed to the development of fungal and bacterial diseases. Due to intense rain in São Paulo producing regions, some areas were flooded and production lost. Consequently, garden lettuce prices have achieved a record high since 2014 and profitability was positive, closing at BRL 14.16 per box of 20 units.
The forecast is that prices will continue to fall in the coming weeks, because of decrease in diseases and high production. Besides that, low temperatures tend to reduce the consumption of lettuce.
