Piracicaba, 21th - The consumption of lettuce during last week (June 14 to 18) was reduced in the São Paulo state. According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, cold temperatures have been responsible for a decrease in demand. On the other hand, a small planted area controlled the supply and limited larger devaluations of lettuce.
In Ibiúna, the average price closed at BRL 7.23 per box of 20 units of green-leaf lettuce, and the iceberg variety was sold at BRL 10.00 per box of 12 units. In Mogi das Cruzes, green-leaf lettuce price has been reduced only 3.0% in comparison to the previous week, closing at BRL 12.75 per box of 20 units.
Considering the scenario, producers are worried about the market in the next months, once the weather in the winter season tends to reduce demand and increase production. So, the initial forecast for this year is that the planted area should not fully recover from the reduction in the 2020 season.
