Piracicaba 25th – According to data from Comex Stat, the official system for extracting statistics on Brazilian foreign trade, in September of this year, 29.7 thousand tons of mangoes were shipped, a 17% decrease compared to the same period last year. In addition to lower shipment volumes, revenue also dropped, reaching just over US$ 38 million (-9% in the same comparison). Even with lower results compared to 2023, it is worth highlighting that the previous year was quite atypical for Brazilian shipments, due to crop failures in competing countries, such as Peru and Ecuador, which favored an intensification of national exports.
In general, Brazilian exports have been within expectations for the period, despite exporters reporting certain difficulties. The first of these involves certifications required by the USDA for the shipment of fruit destined for the USA, which has limited international shipments from Vale do São Francisco (a Northeastern region in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Pernambuco). In fact, the volume sent to the United States fell by around 20% in September compared to the same month last year. Furthermore, port strikes in the USA also caused logistical obstacles during the first week of October.
However, prospects for the coming months are positive, with expectations for the intensification of international shipments. In this sense, Brazil is expected to benefit from the lower availability of mangoes from countries like Peru and Ecuador, which began supplying the international market more effectively this month.
