Piracicaba, 1st – After a complicated season, mango tommy harvest in Monte Alto/Taquaritinga (São Paulo state) ended last week (January 22nd to 26th). According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, high humidity in the region raised diseases, such as bacteriosis and anthracnose.
Despite lower quality and devaluation in relation to other states’ mangoes, tommy variety had prices 8% higher this season (November/17 to January/18) in relation to the same months of 2016/17. However, these values were below production cost for many growers, resulting in negative profitability.
