Piracicaba, 30th – As usual the end of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states harvest, which is the largest melon producing region in Brazil, resulted in an increase in fruit prices on the domestic market in the first half of this month.
In Vale do São Francisco (Bahia and Pernambuco states), where the harvest is gradually increasing, the yellow melon sold in bulk obtained an average of BRL 0.84 per kg in the period, 56% higher compared to the first half of March, but 24% lower than in the first half of April 2020.
This is because, despite less competition with RN/CE region Vale producers have reported that sales are still below normal for the time due to the current economic crisis, restrictions on the circulation of people, and the closure of establishments given the covid-19 situation.
