Piracicaba, 19th – Melon sales remained slow the past week in São Paulo wholesale/Ceagesp (November 9th to 13th). According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, what happened is due to the rainy climate, economic obstacles and municipal elections that occurred last Sunday (15th) - the latter restricted the operation of free fairs and other businesses in the period.
Thus, yellow variety type 5-8 was quoted at BRL 25.75/13 kg box, a decrease of 3% compared to the previous week. It is noteworthy that the fruit entry was more controlled, but there are good volumes in the market. As most of the melon is coming from Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states, the quality was good during the period. For the next week, the availability of melons is expected to be considerable – there is fear that the new wave of covid-19 in Europe will leave more volume in the domestic market – and there is concern about the second-half trade.
