Piracicaba, 13 - In September, Brazilian melon exports shall intensify, mainly to European Union. Producers have good expectation, since season in Spain is finishing. But for now, higher supply in Spain (due to a delay in harvest) is limiting the first shipments of 2018/19 season. In August, exported volume was 3.8 thousand tonnes to EU, a decrease of 61% in relation to the same month in 2017, according to Secex data. Revenue, in the same period, summed US$ 2.5 million, 66% less than August 2017.
However, exports may recover from September on because of an increase in dollar exchange rate, favoring melon profitability. Besides that, some melon cargos were directed to Russia, what shall be a trend of a new market for Brazilian fruits.
