Piracicaba, 16th – A change in the weather (less rain) in Northeast last week (May 6th to 10th) collaborated to onion harvest in Irecê (Bahia state). In April, productivity was affected by rain in producing region, harming the quality of bulbs. Considering the poor quality, quotes were pressured in the weeks before.
In the beginning of May, the end of season in the South of Brazil reduced supply. Therefore, quotes have been favored and increased 27% in relation to the previous week, closing at BRL 1.02 per kg. In Vale do São Francisco (Bahia and Pernambuco states), quality was also higher, even though a large part of the production is small in size (type 2 box).
For the coming weeks, prices may continue to rise in Irecê and Vale do São Francisco, considering the reduced volume expected.
