Piracicaba, 19 - Onion prices rose sharply in the first week of February (5th to 9th) in all producing regions. The reason is the reduction of volume in São José do Norte (Rio Grande do Sul state), which has only 15% of the expect total for commercialization this month. Furthermore, supply in Northeast region is reduced.
Onion quotes in Ituporanga (Santa Catarina state) increased 36,9% compared to previous week, closing at 1.44 BRL per kilo. In addition to this scenario of lower supply, onion quality now is better than before, when bulbs were damaged by rain. So far, producers expect prices to remain high in the coming weeks.
