Piracicaba, 18th – Onion harvest in Minas Gerais and Goiás states started in the middle of May and intensified in the second half of June. The first harvested area – between May and June – was affected by rain during the development of bulbs.
Onion quality was damaged and the rate of rejection raised significantly. Thus, the production costs were pressured up and raised XX% in relation to the same period in 2018, reducing profitability of producers in Minas Gerais state.
In the middle of June, production started to recover, duo to better climate conditions. The height of the harvest is forecasted for July, since producers delayed activities aiming to reduce losses.
Last week, onion quotes (type 3 box) in Cristalina (Goiás state) last week closed at BRL 45.00 per box of 20 kg – with an increase of 7.1% in relation to the previous one.
