ONION/CEPEA: Prices may be better in 2017
The forecast is a decrease of 8.5% in cultivated area this year

Piracicaba, 18 - In July, onion prices rose sharply due to a reduction in national supply. The increase was caused by a reduction in total cultivated area and, consequently, lower volume. Area of onion crop is bound to fall 8.5%, considering all Brazilian producer regions of 2017 season. Thus, the forecast is better quotes for onion this year. Prices went up 31% from June to July and another 56% in July over the same month of last year in Cristalina (Goiás state). In August, quotes tend to be favorable to onion producers, but lower than in July.
