Piracicaba, 23th – In the first half of November, onion quotes registered a high level considering the time series of Hortifruti/Cepea prices. The reason for this scenario was the low national supply, due to the finalization of season in São Paulo, Goiás and Minas Gerais states. In addition to this, the Southern season – which starts harvesting in November – recorded a delay in harvest and low temperatures caused blooming in plants – reducing the onion availability in Brazil. As a consequence, bulbs have being harvested before the ideal period of maturation, in order to take advantage of the high level prices.
