Piracicaba, 28th – Onion quotes remained in high levels in the past weeks due to low supply. The reason is the inter-harvest period, since only Santa Catarina state is offering bulbs. Traditionally, Brazil imports onions from Argentina to complement national supply and serve domestic demand.

This year, however, covid-19 pandemic limited external transactions between Brazil and Argentina, so, the imported volume is lower than Brazilian demand. As a result, onion prices remained high, closing at BRL 3.41 per kg last week (April 20th to 24th) in Ituporanga (Santa Catarina state), ensuring good profitability to onion producers.
