Piracicaba, 17th - Last week (May 10th to 14th), onion quotes closed at BRL 1.07 per kilo, a reduction of 14.7% and 11% in Irecê region (Bahia state). The decline was a reflection of an intensification of harvesting in the Northeast region, which raised national supply.
Even so, the flow of production was favorable and the sales have gained strength in Bahia state, due to the end of 2020/21 South season . According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, the good weather conditions in this season had a positive impact on the quality of the onion, which helps to increase the demand. The forecast for the coming weeks is a gradual growth in the role of the Northeast as the main trader of onion in the country.
