Piracicaba, 28th – Brazilian papaya exports experienced a decline in volume during part of the year (January to October). According to Secex, approximately 31 thousand tons of fruit were exported during this period, marking an 8% decrease compared to the previous year. Agents consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea attribute this decline to the reduced supply this year – a consequence of a smaller harvested area and the impact of rain, especially during the summer of 2022/23. However, the decline was not as significant, hovering around 30 thousand tons.
On the revenue front, the results were more encouraging. There was an increase of 7%, totaling US$ 45 million (FOB), according to Secex. This surge can be attributed to the rise in export prices, driven by strong European demand and dependence on Europe when it comes to Brazilian supply. For the last two months of the year, exports are expected to maintain a similar trend, with a significant increase in the volume exported only next year, when new fields begin to be harvested.
