Piracicaba, 15 – Papaya exports in 2018 may be smaller in relation to 2017, according to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators. It is a result of low availability of havaí variety in producer regions and quality after a rainy period.

In January and February, for example, rain impacted negatively in papaya quality and shipments: only 3.5 thousand tones were sent abroad, 53% less than in the same months of 2017, according to Secex data.

European Union has constant demand for papayas due to high popularity of tropical fruits in the economic block. So, it is important that Brazilian growers think about standards of commercialization, to keep the reputation of national fruits abroad.
