Piracicaba, 20th - After a slight drop in Brazilian papaya exports in recent months, as the summer fruit crop from Europe reduced the interest of imported ones, shipments resumed growth in August. According to the Secretariat of Foreign Trade of Brazil, the volume exported was almost 4 thousand tonnes, 5% higher than in July. The revenue collected in total US$ 3.9 million (FOB), an increase of 6% in the same period - both values are August records since 1997.
According to experts consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea, exports are expected to increase further in September, given the constant improvement in European demand. However, quality problems, such as physiological spots, can be an obstacle and they worry exporters.
