Piracicaba, 7th – Havaí papaya prices fell in main producing regions of Brazil last week (September 28th to October 2nd). This is due to the pressure imposed by the market that has not accepted to pay high values for the fruit, especially in this period that is still counted at the end of the month. Thus, in Norte do Espírito Santo (Espírito Santo state), the variety was sold at an average of BRL 0.67/kg, a drop of 29% in relation to last week.
Although the supply is somewhat controlled in this region, the higher temperatures recorded in recent days have advanced the fruit ripening in some fields. In addition, quality problems have also been reported. For this week, it is expected that papaya trade will recover again due to the beginning of the month and favorable climate for consumption.
