Piracicaba, 18th – Last week (June 7th to 11th), papaya prices, both havaí and formosa, rose again in producing areas. According to agents consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea, this was caused by the constant reduction of supply - resulting from the cooling of the climate. The formosa, for example, was sold by BRL 0.75/kg in northern Espírito Santo in this period, which is 35% higher than the previous week.
Agents reported that prices could rise further if it weren't for this week's slow market - despite expected improvement, the economic crisis and pandemic restrictions continued as limiting. For the next few weeks, papaya producers believe that prices can remain at these levels, or even increase more, because that available volume is decreasing in most regions.
