POTATO/CEPEA: Low productivity inhibits greater price drops See photos

Piracicaba, 31st – In the July partial (1º to 15th), the ágata potato commercialization range values were in BRL 130.43/bag (25 kg), a 5.16% decrease, compared with June. With the harvest intensification in the Southwest of São Paulo and Cerrado, as well as the winter harvest beggining in Vargem Grande do Sul (São Paulo estate), there was a slight increase in supply, causing price decreases. At the moment, the decline in quotations isn’t significant and much smaller than  expected because regions have lower-than-expected productivity prospects, considering the historical range.

Furthermore, other production sites that could be offering an advanced the supply calendar – because of the slow production, good prices, and to avoid the quality loss. From now on, the expectation is that, with the favorable climate scenario, the productivity can increase in harvested areas in the coming weeks.
