The South of Minas Gerais is finishing its winter season by September. Tomato harvest in the region started in February, and throughout the entire season producers have been having problems because of climate changes.
At the beginning of the harvest, storms in the region increased the incidence of bacteria, and frost in June and July caused damage in production. Lower productivity brought good prices due to low supply, but high costs pressured producers’ profitability. With the harvest ending in South of Minas Gerais, tomato prices have risen significantly in recent weeks. The expectation for next season is a stable planting area. The planting may start in November.
