Piracicaba, 23rd – Watermelon season from Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states (Brazil) has been favored by a good demand in Europe, which is influenced by the hot weather and small supply in Spain. According to Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators, harvest in Spain is near the end (at the beginning of October), and because of this, the forecast is of good shipments to the continent and attractive prices.
According to Secex data, the first month of Brazilian export season of watermelon (August/2020) had a performance 58% higher than the same month of 2019 in volume and 67% higher in revenue. In this positive scenario, Brazilian exporters are optimistic, but keeping cautious, because the small flow of tourists during the pandemic can impact demand.
